This module introduces fundamental concepts that affect students’ decisions around learning. Some of these concepts are learning styles, desirable difficulty, illusions of knowing, illusions of confidence, and the curse of knowledge.

By the end of the module students will be able to:

  1. Identify key cognitive biases (e.g., illusions of knowing, confidence, and the curse of knowledge) and analyse their impact on learning and decision-making.
  2. Evaluate how confidence influences learning, distinguishing between productive confidence and overconfidence bias
  3. Apply the concept of the curse of knowledge to identify communication barriers in teaching and devise strategies to improve knowledge transfer.
