📓  COURSE INTRODUCTION

Course purpose

This HIV Diploma course is designed to reinforce guideline-based management, sharpen diagnostic and clinical reasoning, and help candidates identify and address knowledge gaps before undertaking the CMSA HIV Diploma examination. Through active recall and immediate feedback, learners test their understanding of key concepts, track their performance and focus their efforts where needed. With no lectures or reading materials provided, this course is designed to complement existing study resources and uses the testing to boost retention and exam readiness. It is also a valuable learning tool for anyone interested in deepening their understanding of HIV.

CPD Accreditation

This course is accredited for 30 CPD points. Candidates are eligible to claim CPD points once all lessons have been “marked as complete” in the top right corner of the screen. When a section is marked as complete, a green tick ✅will appear next to it in the course content menu. 

In addition, all quizzes need to be completed with a minimum pass mark of 80%. Upon meeting these requirements, candidates can download their course certificate. Instructors are able to view course completion status, and submissions to the HPCSA for CPD points are processed on a monthly basis.

Instructors 

This course was developed by two South African medical graduates with complementary expertise in HIV care and medical education. One is a CMSA-certified Diplomate in HIV Management with over a year of hands-on experience in an ARV outpatient clinic, and additionally over a year of involvement in HIV/TB clinical research. The second contributor holds a Master’s degree in Medical Education from Harvard University and brings a deep commitment to guideline-based clinical practice and a passion for designing impactful, evidence-driven learning experiences.

Course structure 

This course is organised into 20 major categories aligned with the CMSA HIV Diploma blueprint and key clinical priorities. Each category includes a target number of questions and a brief description to support your preparation. You can work through the categories in any order, at your own pace. The table below provides a breakdown of the question categories and how each relates to the CMSA blueprint EPA’s.
